Back from the Beach

Just kidding. But, I did get to spend the day staring out at the sunshine from the seventh floor (wasn’t that gorgeous fellow Grand Rapidians?). And the buildings in the downtown corridor did glisten and reflect blue. No gin and tonic in hand, but I did have a book and a diet coke! I needed to step away for a few days, so I did, thanks to Darryl. I’m back at the hospital today feeling refreshed.

Calvin is doing better, breathing more on his own, and seems to be more comfortable. It’s weird to have him be so silent but his quiet breathing is a huge relief. I have to fight rising panic every time I see him lying with his mouth closed…I automatically assume he can’t breathe (he’s always breathed through the mouth before) and then the gurgle of the trach reminds me he has a new airway. My mind has to retrain my instincts!

I’ll write more soon. Thanks for all the love over the net! It encourages us.

  1. Glad to read that Calvin is improving, and that you were able to step away and get refreshed! Those hospital rooms are definitely claustrophobic and all consuming! Continued prayers for all of you!

I read the following verse this morning. It was a blessing for me to read. It set my mind in focus. Hope it’s a blessing for your day as well!

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2
